Second-half surge leads Canada over Haiti 5-0

Panama City, Thursday March 1, 2012.– Nkem Ezurike scored two in Canada's three-goal spurt in six minute span to start the second half and led the North Americans to a 5-0 win over Haiti on Thursday in the opening game of the CONCACAF Under-20 Women's Championship.
Canada dominated possession for the first half but produced little danger until the start of the second half. After creating five corners in the opening 45 minutes, Canada earned another in the first 35 seconds into the second half.
It took the lead when Shelina Zadorsky curled the ball to the near post and Ezurike took the ball off her left thigh. Haiti's Dienuise Jean Baptiste tried to clear it from the goal box, but only struck it off Ezurike and watched it bounce into the goal in the 47th minute.
Second-half substitute Chatherine Charron-Delage added a header four minutes later and Ezurike another in the 53rd to give the Canadians control.
It was the 13th win as many games in the group stage of the CONCACAF finals for the two-time champion, while Haiti - making its second appearance at the confederation championship - lost for the third time in four matches.
Canada had nearly all the possession in the first half, but neither goalkeeper was particularly troubled.
Haiti forced Canada keeper Sabrina D'Angelo only to handle the ball twice, but counterpart Cynthia Chery likewise faced little danger.
But after Ezurike scored, Charron-Delage headed in Vanessa Legault-Cordisco's cross from near midfield, and then Ezurike tapped in a ball from the edge of the six after Jenna Richardson fed Charon-Delage to assure Canada of an opening victory.
Richardson scored one of her own in the 59th. Zadorsky received the ball back after a short corner and curled a left-footed ball into the area that Richardson redirected from inside the area and just inside the left post.
Charron-Delage added a second in the 62nd, latching onto a cross that Ezurike was able to slow in the middle of the area.
Canada next will face Jamaica on Saturday, while Haiti will try to recover with a match against Mexico.
